Car Feature: Mike Cavanah’s 1966 Chevelle “Grand Sport” – StreetLegalTV.com.

This is a very well done car, in my opinion.  Modified just enough to make it a powerful machine and still look like a 1966 Chevelle.  I say ‘WOW”  you will too when you read the article. (see the link above)

The Power Plant And Putting It To The Ground

The motor itself is an LS 418 cubic inch stroker with a Lunati crank and H-Beam rods connected to forged pistons. The top end is comprised of ported LS3 heads with an LS9 supercharger. All the machining and assembly of the motor was performed by Scoggin Dickey out of Texas.  Mated to the motor is a T-56 six speed transmission that’s outfitted with an ACT dual disc clutch to help lay the power down to the pavement. All this equaled out on the dyno to an impressive 600 hp and 650 lb.-ft. of torque at the wheels.

What is FELINO cB7?

Some recently post a picture of this fascinating car on my Google Plus account and I had to look it up.

cB7 Prototype

cB7 Prototype – Look a little like a C7? That’s what I thought.

So what is cB7?

The FELINO cB7 is a tubular frame vehicle wrapped with composite and carbon fibre elements; it weighs approximately 1 000 kg, according to the selected drive train.

Therefore, the cB7 can be mounted with a 4, 6 or 8-cylinder engine, optional for the buyer.

The early prototype, equipped with a 4-cylinder turbo engine, was tested and received high marks in 2012 and 2013. In 2013, a 6,2 litres V-8 was installed under the bonnet of a second-generation prototype and will be tested thoroughly in the Spring of 2014.

The specifications featured in the press documents are those of the V8 version. These specifications may change. Final model specs will be available in the Summer of 2014.

The entry-level model of the FELINO cB7 will be available at a price under $100,000. Final sales prices will be announced later. The FELINO corporation is already considering the possibility of an electric vehicle in a few years.

PRODUCTION STATUS OF THE FELINO cB7

After three years of research and development, the first FELINO cB7 prototype became a reality in 2012 and was tested on race tracks and notably on Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in 2012 and 2013.

In 2013, FELINO built a second-generation prototype, featuring a chassis evolution, along with a mechanical and design upgrade. It will be tested in the Spring of 2014.

In 2014, the company will reach the final phase of development and the level of pre-production. Two more units will be assembled and tested before Production 1 starts. A limited production series is forecasted for 2015.

Here are the specs they vary of course depending on the drive train.  I’m liking it to a kit car – like a Cobra.

Bugatti pays homage to classic Type 18 sports car with new special edition

Bugatti pays homage to classic Type 18 sports car with new special edition.

It seems the only constant at international auto shows these days is a new Veyron special edition. Bugatti has been unloading these Veyron cosmetic packages one by one, in an effort to keep attracting buyers to the decade-old model. The latest such special edition brings a little more intrigue than the average, recalling what Bugatti calls “one of the first ever street legal super sports cars.”

TRION Promises 2,000HP Hypercar to Compete with Big Boys – StreetLegalTV.com

American Startup Promises 2,000HP Hypercar to Compete with Big Boys – StreetLegalTV.com.

As Carbuzz points out the car is aesthetically very McLaren P1-esque when it comes to styling cues. We’d even say that the rendering looks almost like something pulled straight out of a video game. Looks aside, 0-60 is proposed to happen in only 2.8 seconds and Trion claims a top speed of 280 mph. If all goes according to plan, this would top the world’s best in this regard. Just a few months ago, the Hennessey Venom GT set the record at 270mph for a production car.

Drop-top Supercar: 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible

Drop-top Supercar: 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible.

Chevrolet today introduced one of the most capable drop-tops on the market: the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible. With at least 625 horsepower, and 635 pound-feet of torque, the Z06 is also the most powerful convertible ever produced by Chevrolet.

“The Z06 Convertible is a world-class supercar in every sense,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development. “Only a handful of convertibles in the world bring more than 600 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Even fewer can match the advanced technologies, aerodynamic design, and visceral driving experience of the Z06 Convertible.”

This is the first   Z06 Convertible offered from the factory since 1963 when the Z06 option package was introduced for endurance racing. Records show only 199 Corvette orders with a Z06 package that year, including one convertible.

National Corvette Museum – Mallett Hammer Found!!!

The Mallet Hammer has been located in the sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum (NCM).

According to the NCM:

The final Corvette… #8 of the “Great 8” has been found! The Mallett Hammer is upside down with the nose going to the Spire in the center of the room. There are lots of rocks, so the removal process will be more time-consuming that it was with the other cars.

Thanks to Samuel for this photo!

Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S vs. Nissan GT-R Comparison – Motor Trend

Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S vs. Nissan GT-R Comparison – Motor Trend.

So let’s see the Camaro got spanked at the drag strip.  I get it.  It wasn’t designed for straight stretch racing, so what’s the point Motor Trend?  Why not take a Prius and run it against the Lotus?  Oh….what?  The Prius isn’t a race car?  Huh…go figure!!

But I will say it wasn’t too shabby on the strip!!  The Z/28 ran 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds at 117.2 mph.   But it couldn’t compete with 2.7 to to 60 and 11 second @ 125 MPH (GTR) nor 2.6/10.9@ 123 MPH (911)

The Z28 and some other cars.

The Z28 and some other cars.

If you read further they complained about “racing’ tire peformance…wait for it….in 290 temps.  Seriously…read it yourself, it’s right there!!

I autocross my C6 here in beautiful…and HOT Arizona and you have to have meat that sticks (tires).  I don’t plan on taking the car up to the mountains and have it hang on to corners in the snow… much less  below freezing temps with the tires meant for track duty.

I agree with the conclusion that the Z/28 is “… a race car for the street. It’s got Recaro buckets, Pankl connecting rods, Mahle pistons, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes (co-developed and shared with the upcoming Z06), and Multimatic dynamic spool valve shocks. But it’s not just a name-brand collection of parts, and the Z/28 is no tuner. It stands as one of absolutely the best track-focused cars in the world.”…..except that last part – I say  it was 2nd best next to the Corvette.

While I love the nostalgia that comes to mind when I see this Camaro and the Z/28 badging, I don’t think I’d spend $75K on it.  I just jump up to the  C7 Corvette Sting Ray and be done with it.

What about you?

Auto Factoids for Week of 3/16/2014

Another week gone and March Madness in upon us.  Nope you are going to find any brackets here, just your Auto Factoids for the week.

Big day on the 17th of March.  That’s when Geneva attendees were treated to the first of what would become world iconic car.   The Porsche debuted back in 1949. Volkswagen or not it is still going strong.

Although Porsche was in production a few year before this debut.  Most of the first Porsche’s contained Volkswagen parts, as the Beetle was the first car the Porsche built.

A few years before the Porsche debut (about 115 –  1834) Gottlieb Daimler was born in Germany on the 17th of March.

Two more March birthdays show up on a search. Those are for Rudolf Diesel in Paris in 1858 and Andy Granatelli in Dallas, TX in 1923, whom just passed way on Dec 29, 2013.
