Pop-Up Car Show – T-Birds and Ranchero Fairlane 500

As with most car guys, I have an active eye for cool cars.  I could be walking down the street or driving anywhere and spot a cool car that needs it’s picture taken.

Last Sunday was one of those days.  Driving past a gas station that I drive by every day my “cool car spidey senses” kicked in and I had to stop.

The cars were there supporting the opening of a local hair and nail salon.  Now I’m not one for gets his nails done…but if they can keep cool car set up out side…I’m might might stop in for a perm!!   (If I start growing hair again!!!)

Take a look at the cars that showed up.

Love this line up!!! Reverse opening door on this coupe!!!

Love this rod!!!!

No bright work on this 40’s era car. Great lines for this coupe!

Check out the painted steel wheels…Love that look!

This T-Bird is in original condition.

Love that 390 Engine!

All original ’57 T-bird – 312 engine in awesome condition and it’s driven.

This was my favorite. (No not the SUV) It’s the ’69 Ford Ranchero Fairlane 500 (yes that’s a real thing!)

Love the stripes!!

Interior is as it was when it rolled out of the factory – radio delete, no A/C.

I have to say I loved the 69 Ranchero Fairlane 500.  It had the 351C engine.  I spoke with the owner who has several classic cars and really loves them, in particular, this Ranchero.   I understand why!!!

8th Annual Tucson Classics Car Show! Best Car Show in Southern Az! Oct. 18

Wow where has 2014 gone?!  It’s almost Oct!!!!   But that’s a good thing here in the southwest, because that means its peak car show season and there “ain’t” nothing better than that!!! Being a veteran car show participant, both as a spectator and entrant, I attend many hot, dusty car shows …
A Photo Shoot – Studebakers – Coup and GT Hawk!

It’s monsoon season in Tucson and hence we are in a drought as far as car shows go.  So today was a great day – clear blue skies, with thunder storm beginning to pop up over the mountains (yes we have mountains in Az). My son is a photographer and I’m …

BEST Car Show in Southern AZ!!!! Tucson Classics 7 Annual !!

I kid you not…this is one of the most enjoyable car shows.  You get to park your classic, muscle, racer, import or special purpose vehicle on the grass (yeah…lots of it) – no nasty dirt or melting tar parking areas.   Grab that blanket out your trunk and spread out …

Caffeine and Octane – Atlanta, GA

It’s always cool to catch a car show when you are traveling.

This past week (Super Bowl Sunday) while visiting family in Alpharetta, Ga,  (just outside of Atlanta) I got the chance to ride into the ‘big’ city and take in the event – Thanks Brian!!

There often more than 1500 cars on the first Sunday of every month and even though it was cold and damp (and it being Super Bowl Sunday and the home town team was playing) there were a lot of cars!!!

We got there as it was starting to break up but there were still a lot of cars.  Here’s a few pics.

Take a look at this awesome creation. Built on a C4 Corvette body to best look like a 1957 Chevy!

Check out this Nissan!!! It’s power plant is in the next pic.

Nice straight six!!!!

Nice custom ride!!

Here is a great look for a Road Runner.

No one standing around new anything about the car.

I wasn’t even able to scratch the surface.  There were rows of Mustangs and Corvettes, long with 100’s of European and Japanese high-end rides and not all of them ‘stock’.

Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction – Scottsdale, AZ 2017 Videos 10-11

Welcome back to  our recent trip to Barrett Jackson Classic Car Auction 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ.  Keep in mind these videos were part of the our Facebook Live event and I’m sharing them here on our blog.  Quality is ‘iffy’ in spots but if you’ve never been to some this huge it’s cool to see some of the areas that the TV coverage doesn’t always show.

These videos show more of the grounds and where you can view the sold cars (if you attend early in the week you can see the cars in these areas before they are shined up and sold).  I apologize for top of the tent footage – sigh… live video streaming goes like that.  BTW the phone noises you hear are responses to the live feed.

More coming include my drive of the New Camaro SS and Camaro RS and the introduction of a new feature project car.

Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction – Scottsdale, AZ 2017 Videos 8-9

Welcome back to  our recent trip to Barrett Jackson Classic Car Auction 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ.  Keep in mind these videos were part of the our Facebook Live event and I’m sharing them here on our blog.  Quality is ‘iffy’ in spots but if you’ve never been to some this huge it’s cool to see some of the areas that the TV coverage doesn’t always show.

This next video is more of the staging area and a look at a few of the cars coming up.  You’ll see the ’69 Road Runner that appeared in Hemming Muscle Machines publication, it is as nice in persons as it was on pages of the magazine.

This video is at the Hillbank display.  These are beautiful cars and the all aluminum bodies are awesome to see.  The Daytona coups are built on CSX 9000 chassis (the originals were built on CSX 2000 chassis).  They have the 427 Cobra engine and the 427 S/C. You can find out more at WWW.HILLBANKUSA.COM .

Thanks for reading. A few more videos coming that include an impromptu conversation with one of the sellers and one of the guys working to get the cars up on the stage.

It is always cool attend a car auction but Barrett-Jackson events are top-notch!!!

For this trip I attempted to use  Facebook  Live as a platform and I can report that it worked, however video format showed up ‘sideways’ for many of the post, my android failed to compensate for wide-angle shots. I pulled down most of the videos and edited them to make it a bit easier to view.

Here is the first video in that series:

It’s Car Auction Season – Barrett Jackson Car Show – Westworld of Scottsdale‎

I love this time of year here in Arizona.  Not just because you can work on your classic/muscle car in the garage without feeling like a Christmas turkey in the oven.  I love this time of year because it’s Car Auction Season!   For the next 3-4 weeks classic cars (and others) are bountiful between Tucson, AZ and Phoenix, AZ.

With Barrett Jackson Car Auction kicking off this week and RM, Russo and Steel auctions following up, beautiful cars are brought out in to the cool winter sunlight and driven or set on display.  Now, I’m not just talking about at the auctions themselves.  But I’m talking about the little known phenomenon that occurs in and around the area.

We have a tradition were we will spend some time driving round Scottsdale and Fountain Hills and other little sections of the greater Phoenix area and looking for the displays of cool classic, muscle, antique cars.  The owners have push these beauties out of their warm protective garages, out into the cool winter air.  Everywhere you drive,  sitting next to the curbs or at the edge of the driveways are some of the most prized, collectible and unique cars south of Payson, AZ.

Some of these are for sale, owners hope to catch the eye of disappointed bidder on his way home or get noticed a buyer that doesn’t really want to ponying up baskets full of old presidents to just participate in the auctions, but still suffering from the ‘classic/muscle/antique car flu that is epidemic this time of year.  Others just what to show off their well-loved works of metal art and have a discussion about it with passer-byes.

It is a great time!   We’ll be head there to spend couple days attending the events at Barrett Jackson and we’ll take the time to drive around the area and  I’ll grab a few shots of the local car eye candy and post them up.  If you are headed up drop me a note, I’ve met a few readers at such events, that’s always cool.

BTW  – Don’t forget some of the best view is in the parking lot at the these events – snap some shots and post them up on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/AGCarRestoration .

See you here.

1929 Detroit Electric Headed Out and 1953 GMC Gas Monkey Garage Build

I’ll say it again, it’s not part of my daily routine (Although I which it was!!!) that I get to deal with some rare cars.   By day I’m the Director of Information Technology for a retail company with stores throughout Arizona  at home I’m a Corvette and Mustang (check out #ProjectSportsRoof) loving car guy.  But today the two intersected and that equaled a cool day.

If you look back at my post entitled Driving a 1929 Detroit Electric Model 97 http://wp.me/p2YxYx-4Qp you’ll get a good look at the Detroit Electric. Today it is headed back to its owner and the owner of our company.

We pushed the Detroit out of the building and into the sun light again – most likely will be its last bit of Arizona UV rays.  This beauty is on its way to Hood River, OR where the owner is loaning it to a transportation museum. The guys in this video, Tom, David, Lynn have worked and lived with this rare mode of transportation for over 10 years. It will be missed.

As if that’s not enough for one post, there’s more to this ‘most excellent day’ (to steal a phrase from Bill and Ted).

It’s tough to pick a transport company to move your special vehicle across country. I have used my share, transporting a Mustang, a Torino, a VW bug and a motorcycle via different carriers and it’s a big deal. The company selected for this rare car was FSI Transport Service and the care the driver showed was very reassuring that this 1929 electric car was in good hands. FSI is operated by Frank and Laura Martinez, out of El Paso, Tx.  Their rig was perfect for the job – being that the Detroit is a bit taller than the average car.

Often the car you are shipping travels with several other cars that are headed the same way. But this time there was only one travel mate for this trip. It just happened to be a beautiful 1953 GMC Custom pickup, according to the driver it build by the folks at Gas Monkey Garage and headed home to the owner.

That’s a beautiful truck and a worthy travel mate for the old electric car.

Barrett-Jackson Car Auction, Scottsdale, Az 2016 – Sleeper Pontiac

I just have to add one more sleeper car slated to be auctioned off in Scottsdale this week.  You might be surprised at this little gem.

Since you know by the title that it’s a Pontiac (or is it?) let me show you a badge on the car to give you a hint.   Don’t scroll all the way down yet!!

Hey it's a Pontiac Sports Deluxe? Not exactly!!

Hey it’s a Pontiac Sports Deluxe? Not exactly!!

Can you tell yet?

It is a 1967 Pontiac Beaumont!

Looks like a plain Jane Pontiac from the backside!!

Looks like a plain Jane Pontiac from the backside!!

It's got a V8!!

It’s got a V8!!

Love the side vents!!!

Love the side vents!!!

The Beaumont was a GM based Canadian car sold at Pontiac-Buick dealerships in Canada.   Through out it’s production years of 1962 – 1969 it was based on a the Chevelle, the Chevy II and the Nova, all at different point on it’s time line.  The Sports Deluxe (SD) was in fact the same trim level as the Chevy Chevelle  SS – hence the engine option below.

This one is restored to original, including paint color and it has  date-code-correct 396 engine tweaked a bit to produce 375 HP.

Now that’s a sleeper!!!!!

Should be crossing the auction block on Thursday 1/28.

Barrett-Jackson Car Auction Scottsdale, AZ 2016 – Opening Day

As usual I don’t think anyone will be disappointed with the lineup of cars for this years Barrette-Jackson Auctions in Scottsdale, AZ.

I spent the entire day looking over the offering and even with other auctions running just before, during and just after, you are going to see some great auction fun!!!

One of my favorites of course are the Mustangs and there are plenty there!!!  That being said, I did not see a single 71-73 Mustang in the tents – but I do see at least one in the catalog.  But you have to love what was on display in one corner of this massive complex.

More coming up from Barrett-Jackson!!!
