On 10/13/ in 1902 Packard Motor Car Co. was formed from the Ohio Automobile Co.  Of interest: In September, 1900, the Ohio Automobile Company was founded as the manufacturer, while the cars were always sold as Packards. Since these automobiles quickly gained an excellent reputation, and there were more automobile makers that produced — or at least planned to — under the label “Ohio”, the name was changed soon: On October 13, 1902, it became the Packard Motor Car Company.

As a enthusiast of all K Car derivatives, I think of Lee Iacocca as the father of the mini van, too. Some of my favorite ‘Iacocca-isms’:

    1) So many engineers at Ford claimed to be the father of the Mustang that I sure wouldn’t want to be seen with the mother in public.

    2) If you think American cars are bad, then you obviously never owned a European built automobile.

    3) Lee addressing the Chrysler UAW in early 1980 before the date of a planned strike; I have many jobs at $12 per hour, but none at $16. I have reduced my salary to $1 per year. Please decide today if you want to work at Chrysler. The UAW voted unanimously to not strike at Chrysler.

I have to wonder if Lee had stayed at Chrysler in some management capacity if the Diamler thing would have been avoided?

Let me hear from you!!! Drop a note!!
